400 milligram to 800 milligram doses will be available.  We all are probably familiar with Ibuprofen through over the counter drugs we have purchased imagefor years, such as Tylenol for one example and there are other drugs available at your local drug store.

Caldolor is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory class of drug and is the first one to get approval for use as an injectible for those who cannot take oral medications.  It could also stand to be used in some cases instead of morphine.  There are also other alternative drugs available for pain that are currently used.  The same side effects apply as what is given with the oral version of ibuprofen.  BD

The first injectable dosage of the popular pain medication ibuprofen has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat fever and pain.

Caldolor is made by Cumberland Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Nashville, Tenn. It will be available only for use in hospitals and approved in 400 milligram to 800 milligram doses to be administered for 30 minutes every six hours to treat acute pain. For treatment of fever, the drug will be given in 400 milligram doses every four to six hours followed by lower doses as necessary.

Caldolor is the first drug from the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory class of drugs (NSAIDs) that can be administered by a shot rather than taken orally. The injectable form of the drug gives patients and physicians another tool to use in providing relief from fever and pain when patients cannot take oral drugs, the FDA said.
