First it was pressure on the CIOs and now it’s spreading to the CTO’s, maybe?  It’s going to be harder to keep folks in these position as they are smart and have tons of ideas and some good methodologies but technology is still somewhat “thankless” if imageyou will as so many still don’t understand the many roles technology plays in medicine, science and research.  Beth Noveck worked in the area of Open Government and is returning to serve as a Law Professor, back where she came from.  From the website below?

“Congress established the Office of Science and Technology Policy in 1976 with a broad mandate to advise the President and others within the Executive Office of the President on the effects of science and technology on domestic and international affairs. The 1976 Act also authorizes OSTP to lead interagency efforts to develop and implement sound science and technology policies and budgets, and to work with the private sector, state and local governments, the science and higher education communities, and other nations toward this end.”

Granted, the government is playing catch up all over the place after 8 years of neglect for the most part from leaders who kind of sat in denial while private industry forged ahead and today we are in a technology war fare battle, like or not.  When I see stories as such at the link below with IT Illiteracy splitting at it’s sides as far as those who still think this is possible, I can understand why folks in these CTO jobs want throw their hands up and raise the white flag as far as being able to make any real progress as it is so hard with those in politics living in the 70s that through non participation kind lead all in the wrong direction with wrong facts.  I just report and blog about it and it’s frustrating to me too and even more so that it’s not reported correctly and media still seems to chase the OMG stories for ratings at times instead of offering educational information to help citizens understand why and how all of this is occurring, a society that is barefoot and pregnant for lack of better words.  Under the prior imageadministration of 8 years, these folks I think in this office had some serious snooze time <grin>.

Health Insurance Companies Not Supporting Repeal of Healthcare–They Don’t Want Big Expense of Algorithmic Data Resets Either As “Algos” Are Their Business Models

I keep saying that all members of Congress could use some Algo Men on board to make them smarter and bring some out of the 70s.  When I saw that the new committee leader of Science in the House was 90 years old, well that is sad and no disrespect meant at all, but gee with the way things are moving today how will he keep up and also is it fair to him, both sides of the coin.

More Congressional Testimonies About Health IT–Members of Congress Could Entertain Getting an “Algo Man” on Staff As Wall Street and Health Insurers Have Them–Don’t Leave Home Without One

Digital Illiteracy will continue to rare it’s ugly head all around Washington and with transparency and the rapid movement of technology we find the ugly heads showing up more rapidly than they did in the past too and this will continue and it doesn’t make lawmakers look good.  Some have kept quiet I think while of course we know others have not and if you draw the focus today it kinds looks like you might want make sure you know what’s going on and get that IT literacy up there as algorithmic formulas and tech are ruling almost all decision making processes and the need to know how to use the tools is right in your face today.  BD

The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has lost another deputy CTO, its second high-ranking IT official departure in less than a month.

Beth Noveck, who served as deputy CTO of open government for the OSTP, left her post at the beginning of the year to serve as a professor of law at New York Law School, where she was employed before she took her post with the OSTP in 2009. The office has not yet named a replacement.

Indeed, Noveck made quite an impression in her two years at the OSTP. She led the development of the Obama administration's Open Government Initiative, which calls for government agencies to use technology to promote transparency and accountability as well as to foster more collaboration with the people they serve.
