This is interesting that the first generic drug for Viagra is made by Pfizer. Well when you think about it they have the formularies already there and ready to go and the generic name is Avigra, kind of sounds like Viagra:) The price will have half of what Viagra costs so if it’s the same drug company manufacturing, does this mean in New Zealand that Viagra is dead for all practical purposes?
It will be interesting though too as Viagra comes off patent in other places in the world to see what other manufactures do. This looks like the little black pill now instead of the little blue pill. BD
The New Zealand patent for erectile dysfunction medication Viagra expires in June, allowing other companies to manufacture and sell generic versions of the pill.
Viagra manufacturer Pfizer will be first off the block though, with Avigra – which will sell at half the price of Viagra.
“Because Viagra still remains patented throughout most of the world, by launching a second brand in a generic market it allows us to provide the same quality of medicine as Viagra at a more competitive price,” says the company's Frances Benge.
