The ranking of physicians continues amidst law suits being filed. This may be a bit absurd, but what about turning the tables here and let’s put some ranks out from the physicians and let them have a hand at this – let’s have the doctors rate the insurance companies, after all we are working towards transparency. There are several articles here and there with problems and issues, but I would really like to see what the physicians have to say, after all they are ones burdened with the red tape and referral processes, that take a large amount of administrative time at any practice. Under such ranking systems, patients who see top-rated doctors often have lower copayments. Insurers say that creates an incentive for patients to seek high quality care at a lower cost. But last month, the Massachusetts Medical Society filed a lawsuit claiming the Group Insurance Commission's ranking, or tiering, defames doctors who score poorly but actually provide high quality, low-cost care. The suit also alleges tiering defrauds patients who have to pay higher out-of-pocket costs.
