Molina Healthcare Acquiring Abri Health in Wisconsin – Purchasing Another Health Plan

Back in February Moline had purchased the Unisys Health Management program with managing the care for the company 900 employees.

Molina Healthcare Acquiring Unisys Health Information Management for Approximately 135 Million

This was actually announced last month but in case you missed it Molina is purchasing the healthcare management end of Unisys. Their area of market is HMO services in area where they presently may not be available and with the purchase expansion should be pretty rapid and the company has 900 employees at present.

Molina’s core business is with Medicare and heavily with Medicaid. With healthcare services here we are talking about giving financial, business intelligence, etc. types of services that many large companies currently provide. The other side of the coin is to to work and join efforts with Medicaid in states to provide HMO-like services. Now that states have cut back so much on budgets, this will be an interesting move to see how it works and succeeds. Molina is a non profit company.

Back in January I wrote about Molina is working with Cisco on a Telemedicine Pilot Program too. This was a pretty big deal as even our Governor was present for the unveiling.

For those coming under Molina I might guess there’s some telemedicine in the plans as health IT moves forward. So far the telemedicine project is being tested in California. BD

Molina Healthcare, Inc. (NYSE: MOH) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Abri Health Plan, a provider of Medicaid managed care services to BadgerCare Plus and SSI Managed Care enrollees in Wisconsin. The purchase price for the acquisition is expected to be approximately $16 million, subject to adjustments, and will be funded with available cash and/or the Company’s credit facility. Subject to regulatory approvals and the satisfaction of other closing conditions, the closing of the transaction is expected to occur by August 31, 2010.
