The entire incentive package goes up to as high as $44,000 for Medicare and up to $63,000 from Medicaid for using electronic medical records.  Hospitals of course stand to gain much in the way of incentives for their incentives.  The longer that imageproviders wait though the incentives get smaller.  Last week I posted about the very first incentive check that were received by a small practice of 2 doctors in Oklahoma who each received $21k.

“We expect that number will continue to increase daily,” said CMS spokesman Joseph Kuchler.

Providers access the CMS registration portal, which became operational Jan. 3, to participate in the Medicare and Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive program.

For example, one of the components is the use of computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems for 30 percent of medication orders.

“CPOE is one of the most important processes in an inpatient setting, and it can drive both the quality and efficiency of care,” he said in a statement.
