This is wild video and it didn’t take long to do the work. The hospital opened in 1968 and many were there to see it open and see it close too. There was a lot of ground breaking research also done at the facility that has been closed for a few years and has sat vacant. Everything will be recycled.
The land will make room for home developers to move in and years of delays were due to the Lehman bankruptcy who was the partner of the developer. Still shades of Wall Street show up here and there. It took 800 pounds of dynamite to level the building, a very interesting video to watch. The once large military presence in northern California continues to shrink. BD
(04-08) 14:26 PDT Oakland -- Flash, ka-boom and a venerable old Navy hospital in the Oakland Hills collapsed into history Friday.
Oakland Naval Hospital, formerly called Oak Knoll Naval Hospital, which closed 15 years ago, imploded just after noon when City Councilman Larry Reid detonated 800 pounds of dynamite that blasted the 11-story building into a pile of rubble.
