Pfizer, which recently told Wall Street it planned to slim down its imagebusiness, said it would sell off capsule-maker Capsugel to the private equity group KKR for nearly $2.38 billion.

Capsugel makes a variety of gel capsules for the pharmaceutical and supplement industries. It produced more than 180 billion capsules last imageyear, generating $750 million in revenue, according to a statement issued by Pfizer.

The capsule-maker is located in Peapack and Gladstone and employs 2,850 around the world but has fewer than 50 workers in New Jersey.
