Other patients in the ER room were sent to other hospitals while the Hazmat investigation continued after closing the ER room. Luckily enough the rock didn’t contain enough radio active parts to harm anyone.
The rock was taken by the hazmat team for further analysis. 3 hazmat teams were dispatched to the hospital, no mention here though on why the patient with the rock was at the ER though.
LONE TREE, Colo. - The emergency room of the Skyridge Medical Center was shut down Friday morning while HazMat crews responded to a patient who arrived with a radioactive rock in his pants pocket.
Authorities say the hospital ER was closed for about an hour after the man told staffers that his rock emitted a low level of radiation.
Hospital spokeswoman Linda Watson says the rock was tested, found to be radioactive and a fire department hazardous materials team was called.
