Florida legislation will not allow health professionals licensed in other states to cross borders to deliver free health care in this state, all volunteers for a Florida based mission have to be Florida licensed and thus earlier this year one of the free medical clinics had to be cancelled.  Stan Brock also believes all citizens should be able to get free healthcare.

“I’ve appeared twice before Congress on this issue and no one seems to give a damn,” Brock said.”

This week a new study came out talking about the US drop in life expectancy and the scientists came down to our health system being the culprit.

He shares some of the same frustration we do as far as Congress giving a darn as far as working toward this goal.  We had some of the same issues here in Los Angeles with getting enough volunteers from the local area and some had to be turned away as a result.  BD

BRISTOL, Tenn. – From a minor checkup to a yanked tooth, RAM USA founder Stan Brock has seen plenty of uninsured people scrambling for every type of free health care he can muster.

Based on recent statistics supplied by the U.S. Census Bureau, the number of people needing his help is increasing. Roughly 50.6 million Americans – 16.7 percent of the population – lacked insurance of any kind in 2009.

Brock’s dilemma is not stemming the increase of uninsured, but devising a way to get free medical care to all of those people.

Aside from Tennessee and Virginia, he said, most states prohibit outside doctors from crossing borders and helping patients. At least not without a state medical license, regardless of whether it’s a charity case.

Brock does not keep a close watch on the statistics, though. RAM, to enforce anonymity, doesn’t track insurance rates among its patients.

His main concern is getting free medical care to the people. Medical licensing laws will have to change for him to do that more effectively, by allowing more doctors to volunteer their time, he said.
