Pfizer Suing Teva To Block Generic Version of Viagra Until 2019 Instead of 2012 Expiration Date – Viva Teva

LONDON -(Dow Jones)- U.K. drug maker Shire PLC (SHP.LN) Friday said its U.S. subsidiary filed a lawsuit there against Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (TEVA), alleging that the Israel-based generic drugs maker infringed two patents for Shire's hyperactivity medicine Intuniv.

Shire, the U.K.'s third-largest drug company, said its lawsuit results from an Abbreviated New Drug Application for making copycat versions of Intuniv by Teva, the world's largest generic drugs maker.

Shire's hyperactivity product, which uses the active ingredient guanfacine, only went on sale in the U.S. late last year and is protected there by three patents, which run until 2015, 2020 and 2022.
