Recently in the news Intuit did their own study about patients not understanding their medical bills and EOBs and with adding the portal/web interface of Medfusion for providers and patients to work with, maybe this will become a little less tedious.

Medfusion is a service that brings a web portal, communication services, front and back office functions together under one roof and of course there’s a PHR for the patients.

From the website:

"Online." "Do it yourself." "Self-service." These are some of the most widely-used terms today. Self-checkouts at grocery and other retail stores, self-pay at gas stations, online bill payment for utilities and credit cards. Consumers today are demanding a simpler, faster, and more convenient way to do business in nearly every facet of their lives. Is it any surprise that this trend is spreading into healthcare?

Patients are demanding the means to interact with their providers online. Are you going to be there to meet them? You can, with enhanced communication solutions from Medfusion.

I have posted about Quicken Health here and most insurers are working with Intuit and the product to integrate into their payment solutions.  Medfusion basically sets up an entire web based business for a practice to include a website to enable patient/provider communication.  Who knows, maybe we will see Quick Books in there next on the portal as this is the current type of collaborated solution I think that most are looking for without having to purchase a number of separate solutions.  Bd

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intuit Inc. (Nasdaq:INTU) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Medfusion, a Cary, N.C. based leader in patient-to-provider communications. Medfusion offers enhanced online solutions that enable healthcare providers to offer superior service to their patients while improving office efficiency and generating revenue. The cash transaction is valued at approximately $91 million.

“Our mission is to enable healthcare providers to better serve their patients through enhanced communications”

Medfusion’s online solution helps patients communicate with their providers to schedule appointments, pay bills, request prescription refills, complete medical forms, review lab results and clinical summaries, receive reminders and exchange secure messages for related care and administrative issues. After the transaction closes, Intuit will build upon its existing Quicken Health solutions to make it easier for patients to understand their medical bills and for providers to get paid faster. The companies plan to combine Intuit’s user interface and design expertise with Medfusion’s broader portal offering and bill presentment and payment solutions.
